World AIDS Day December 1, 2020

AIDS (Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) is a chronic, a life-threatening condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which damages your immune system. By compromising your immune system, HIV restricts your body’s ability to fight against organisms that cause disease.
HANDS played its role in raising awareness regarding AIDS.
Contract signing of HANDS for US Pakistan Center for Advance Studies in Water with Mehran University of Engineering and Technology December 2, 2020

HANDS has signed a subcontract with US- Pakistan Center for Advance Studies in Water of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro to develop a Water Safety Plan for Municipal Committee Jacobabad under USAID Pakistan funded Water Governance and Capacity Building Program. Chief Executive HANDS Dr. Shaikh Tanveer Ahmed and Director USPASC-W Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar signed the contract document while the event was witnessed by the Ghulam Mustafa Zaor- Chief of Party for WGCB- USAID and core team members of HANDS.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebration at HANDS DWA Independent Living Center Karachi on December 3, 2020

On the occasion of International Day of People with Disabilities, HANDS spread a message about increasing public awareness, understanding, and accepting of people with disabilities and celebrate their achievements and contributions. HANDS aims to create awareness about how important it is for society to recognize and encourage the creativity of people with disabilities. The day was celebrated with HANDS Independent Living Center Disabled Welfare Association (DWA) at HANDS Head office Karachi. It was emphasized to include Persons with Disabilities in every aspect of life by providing them equal educational and employment opportunities. HANDS and DWA senior management and other staff attended the event.
Meeting with Parliamentarians on December 9, 2020
HANDS in collaboration with Scaling Up Nutrition – Civil Society Alliance (SUN-CSA) organized a meeting with Parliamentarians on Nutrition Re-Prioritization at Policy & Program Level in COVID-19 Context at Karachi on December 9, 2020. The meeting was attended by Parliamentarians of Sindh, and Development partners. Dr. Shaikh Tanveer Ahmed CE HANDS moderated the meeting sessions.

HANDS Model of Marvi Workers, December 16, 2020

HANDS Marvi Worker Model is internationally recognized model in which Marvi worker provide services to her assigned population as per defined activities and indicators of the project. Each Marvi worker is provided supportive supervision of an LHV for the technical/skill based services. Marvi worker mobilizes the community and provide information/knowledge to her target population on standard information packages for behavior change. For behavior change different strategies are being used including an Information Communication Technology (ICT) based mobile applications with recorded health education messages. Thus our Marvi/Misali worker is not just a community health worker but a Change Agent for positive behavior change.
Population Association of Pakistan, 21st Annual Research Conference December 22-24, 2020

21st Annual Research Conference on COVID-19 Impact on Pakistan’s Populations: Challenges and Recommendations for Meeting Unmet Family Planning demands was conducted form December 22-24, 2020. The conference was held in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi. This was hybrid (in persons and online) arrangements in which participants were present online and in person. HANDS is one of the partners of Population Association of Pakistan and facilitated the conference at three places.

HANDS Larkana team conducted health and hygiene promotion sessions with religious leaders in mosques and monitored management of hand washing stations at public places of hotspot areas of district Larkana under Scale Up Humanitarian Response for COVID-19 Project.
Food Packages distribution in Badin and Sanghar December 30, 2020

HANDS in collaboration with UNOCHA distributed Food Packages to rain affected families of District Badin under PHPF- UNOCHA. 1300 households receive food packages in Badin and 4000 households received food packages in district Sanghar.
Visit of Dr. Zafar Mirza Former Federal Health Minister to HANDS Head office Karachi December 31, 2020

Dr. Zafar Mirza-Former Federal Health Minister along with his family visited HANDS Head Office. He met with HANDS higher management. He thoroughly visited the HANDS different programs’ prototypes, also planted a tree in the premises.
5 days’ internship program at Saaya ILC

Saaya Association has organized 5 days’ internship program for students with disabilities with the support of HANDS Pakistan under the umbrella of CBID network at Saaya Centre for Independent Living Islamabad. Total 40 Person trained at the duration of Jan2020- to December 2020. The main purpose of these sessions was to improve the participation of students with disabilities in society by providing them with internship opportunities. In addition, encourage positive changes in the perception and attitudes toward disabilities within the private sector. Monthly Awareness Session on understanding of Disability at Saaya Office Islamabad with the support of HANDS Pakistan under the umbrella of CBID Network. Participants, included Women/Persons with & without disabilities, Children with disabilities & their Parents who attended these training sessions. Total 48 Participants with Disabilities &without disability 55 at the duration of Jan2020- to December 2020.
