Monitoring Report
The Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) has taken a bold step in promoting social inclusion and empowerment for persons with disabilities through Disability Equality Training (DET). The APCD recently facilitated the DET program for young Thai leaders with disabilities and their PAs from the Thailand Council for Independent Living (TIL).

The program aims to create a more inclusive society in view of social model and encourage persons with disabilities to become agents of change in their communities.
DET program was held on May 3, 2023, and May 18, 2023. It was attended by approximately thirty participants per day, including individuals with physical disabilities and their PAs. The two interactive sessions were filled with lively discussions and engaging activities, including social models’ exercises to improve the quality of accessibility for persons with disabilities. The APCD facilitators also shared their individual experiences and insights on discrimination and stigma faced by persons with disabilities.
During the sessions, the participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the current situations faced by persons with disabilities in Thailand. The program also provided guidelines for the inclusion of disability equality as an essential component of the training program, enabling the participants to take their commitment to the next level and become agents of change in their communities.
As a witness to the success of the program, the participants left the DET sessions feeling empowered and motivated to create positive change for persons with disabilities. The group photos of participants and APCD facilitators on DET showed the fellowship and enthusiasm of the group. The DET session organized by APCD not only enhanced the empowerment and advocacy of persons with disabilities but also created a more inclusive society for all.
